Frisco was the fastest-growing city in the United States in 2009, and also the fastest-growing city in the nation from 2000 to 2009. In the late 1990s, the northern Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex suburban development tide hit the northern border of Plano and spilled into Frisco, sparking explosive growth into the 2000s. Like many of the cities located in the booming northern suburbs of Dallas, Frisco serves as a bedroom community for many professionals who work in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex.

Frisco is conveniently located 20 minutes north of Dallas along Dallas North Tollway and approximately 25 miles from DFW International Airport. Frisco has 8 million square feet of retail, 4 professional sports teams, and over 150 outdoor sculptures. Pizza Hut Park is home to the FC Dallas major league soccer team and features 17 championship-quality soccer fields adjacent to a 21,193 seat state-of-the-art soccer specific stadium. The nearby Dr. Pepper Ballpark and Dr. Pepper StarCenter host minor league baseball and hockey.

Frisco is becoming the major shopping destination of North Texas, with Stonebriar Centre, the Center at Preston Ridge, and a 310,000 square foot IKEA store. Last but not least, at the beginning of 2016 Frisco will become home to the Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters and Training Facility.

In 2007, Frisco received the National Arbor Day Foundation Growth Award for the third year in a row. This award recognizes environmental improvement and encourages a higher level of tree care and tree preservation within the community. A 2007 Forbes study named Frisco as the sevent-fastest growing suburb in the United States.

With a 2000 census of 33,714, Frisco has grown 449 percent since the 1990 census population figure of 6,138. The population of Frisco as of February 1st, 2013 is 130,020.
